Last year I had the good fortune to meet a five year PMC Rider Karen Maypother who lost her husband to cancer in 2010. In addition to her husband she has a 19 year old son who survived stage 4 cancer as a toddler. She invited me to see the PMC to see what it was all about. She assured me it would change my life as it had changed hers.Since that time we have developed a beautiful relationship. She was correct about the impact of the PMC. I was completely awe inspired by the event and became motivated to become a part of it.
I lost my dad, his father, and mother to cancer. it has been 15 years since my dad passed and even longer for my grandparents. I have never taken the opportunity to take their passing and turn it into something positive. This I am riding my first PMC at the age of 51.
The feeling of being robbed of great people in you life never really passes. Karen and I often speak of our loss to help each other. It may be simple conversation but the impact of those words keeps a smile and a memory alive in you. I know there are greater and more impactful stories that people share but this is mine. This will be my therapy, my way to honor my family, maybe a way of closure for my loss, I do not know. I do know this is going to be one of the greatest things I do for others. Isn't that what life is all about? Paying it forward. I would be so grateful if you could sponsor me as I travel the 192 miles from Sturbridge to Provincetown for my family.
