Year 8
This August marks my 8th year riding in the Pan-Mass Challenge in honor of my late best friend, roommate, and teammate, Davey Hovey.
Davey and I met at St. Lawrence University, where we played lacrosse together for four years, eventually serving as co-captains our senior year. After graduation, we moved to Boston in 2013 and continued to navigate post-college life side by side. Whether we were battling it out on the field or for a seat at the bar at the Chatham Squire, Davey was the ultimate competitor - someone who lived fully, loved fiercely, and embodied the Westy motto, “virtute et numine” - by grit and grace.
Davey was diagnosed with glioblastoma just after his 25th birthday. Over 16 months, he endured five brain surgeries, multiple rounds of chemo and radiation, clinical trials, and more. He faced each hurdle with courage and humility, never losing the spirit that made everyone love him. His fight was as inspiring as it was heartbreaking.
Glioblastoma is one of the most aggressive and underfunded forms of cancer. Despite decades of research, survival rates remain devastatingly low, and the standard of care has barely changed. That’s why we ride. 100% of what we raise goes directly to Dana-Farber through the David Hovey - CRUS11TOUR Fund, supporting groundbreaking research by Davey's doctor, Dr. David Reardon.
To date, team CRUS11TOUR has raised over $3.5 million (!!) - and we’re just getting started. We ride with purpose. We ride with grit. We ride with grace. For Davey. For all those affected by glioblastoma. For a future with better answers.
Thanks for reading - and thank you for your support!
