This ride is for Mimi.
I wish I could do more but this is one way I know I can make an impact. If you have the means to support this ride which is dedicated to my mom-Cheryl Segreve- I thank you for any donation you can offer. ??
Fuck Cancer.
Joey's story....(from previous years)
On January 26, 2019, Joey completed his treatment and on February 8, 2019, he was declared disease free!!!
Now, a year after his diagnosis, Joey is a happy, healthy, and extremely stubborn 2.5 year old kid. His hair has grown back, he is potty trained and recently moved from his crib to a big boy bed. He is a normal kid on all accounts. His strength continues to shine in his personality, he is strong and smart and gives us a run for our money. After the year we all went through, the terrible twos are a bump in the road that we gladly celebrate!
And as for our team...we are happy to celebrate that all 3 Wilms Bros are CANCER FREE! All three families are on the other side, training hard, and so excited to be working toward such an amazing physical challenge that pushes us to be our strongest and healthiest right next to Joey, Will and Winston!
In less than a month Team Wilms Bros will come together for our first Pan Mass Challenge and we are less than $3,000 away from reaching our goal of raising $50,000 to give back to Dana Farber and the Jimmy Fund. Paying it forward to the next generation of patients is how we say thank you for saving our boys’ lives ??????
Original Post...
On June 6, 2018, Steve and I brought our youngest son, Joey, to Boston Childern's Hospital after a series of mild fevers and an enlarged stomache. Joey never showed any signs of pain but his tempermate was off and after a trip to the pediatrician we were told to head straight to the hosptial for more examinations. Within 24 hours Joey was diagnosed with cancer in the form of a Wilm's Tumor on his left kidney. Less than a week later he began chemotherapy, followed by a surgery removing the tumor and his entire kidney, followed by radiation therapy and more chemotherapy. As I write this letter we are counting down the days to what we hope is his final chemo treatment (Jan 24th)! In February, Joey will have a series of body scans and we will find out if he is cancer free!
2018 was a year we will never forget. Now we as a family we are dedicated to making 2019 HAPPY, HEALTHY, and STRONG! Joey's healthy bill of sale as our first order of business and then to continue our journey to live our healthiest lives, Steve and I have committed to follow Joey's lead and put our strength and will power to the test. This August we will embark on another journey--- a 2 day bike ride across Massachuesttes--dedicated to raising money to support The Dana Farber Cancer Institue. Dana Farber has been our home away from home during Joey's battle, and although it is a place no one ever wishes to go to, we fell in love with every part of it. The doctors and nurses are the most amazing angels we have ever encountered, the science and medicine is out of this world, and now we want to give back.
During Joey's battle we met so many amazing people along the way at Dana Farber, including two young boys, Will (3 yo) and Winston (2yo), who were diagnosed with Wilm's Tumors within weeks of Joey's diagnosis. Although we met under such unfortunate circumstances, these families have become our forever friends. We have leaned on each other, cried to each other, cheered each other on, and now we all look forward to celebrating the end chemo for all three boys! Together and we recruited, Shawn, our favorite DF nurse (and now the boys' sergate uncle) and we are riding for the cause as #TeamWilmsBros for the 2019 PMC! We have dedicated ourselves to ride in the PMC because it is leading a charge to beat cancer. In fact, last year 100% of rider-raised revenue went directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure.
We have already been blessed with so much personal support from all our friends and family. We hope you will help us fight and give back to the greater cause! We hope you will consider making a donation to Team WilmsBros and our ride to fight Cancer!
We thank you for always supporting us!
Love,
Corinne and Steve Segreve
