In 1986 my father was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. He was relatively young and very healthy. I never imagined it would take his life. I heard of this crazy bike ride that was raising money for Dana Farber and thought it would be fun. I think there were only 350 riders. It was fun. But more than that it was sobering. I found out how devastating cancer was to so many families and how childhood cancers and breast cancers struck indescriminately. And that being healthy was no protection whatsoever. My dad lost his battle and died from his cancer in 1989. I became a warrior, determined that I would ride this event and raise as much money as I could until there was no more cancer. After 39 years of riding and raising money, my hope is as strong as ever that cancer will be cured in my lifetime. I'm very proud of the way the PMC has grown over the years, that my lifetime fundraising is approaching a million dollars, and that 100% of rider generated donations go directly to Dana Farber.
