Those of you who have been faithful supporters of our PMC efforts since 2003 will recall the history: the Pan-Mass Challenge began in 1980 when Billy Starr, after losing his mother to cancer, organized a group of cyclists to ride across the state to raise awareness of the disease and help direct funding towards the Jimmy Fund at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. The rest, as they say, is history. Now, the PMC boasts over 5,000 cyclists participating annually in various one- and two-day routes. Since 2007, 100% of every dollar PMC cyclists raised goes directly to the Jimmy Fund. Since 1980, the PMC has contributed $900 million! Dozens of life-improving and life-saving therapies have been discovered with the support of this funding.
While I love to ride the PMC route, since 2011, I've been focused on my role as a volunteer in the PMC Command Center - the team that helps coordinate support and logistics over the course of PMC weekend and now I lead the Command Center as a member of the PMC's Head Volunteer Staff.
It is an amazing privilege to be part of a team of like-minded PMCers that works to achieve a common goal that serves the greater good, delivering millions of dollars that translates directly into lives saved as well as genuine hope for all.
It is in this spirit that I am asking you for your support - in whatever amount. Fighting cancer has always been personal to me. My dad is a breast cancer survivor and my father-in-law died of pancreatic cancer. We have so many friends and family members who have fought cancer. Right now two of my family members are fighting cancer and I want more than anything to work for a world where nobody else needs to know this pain and suffering. The Dana-Farber just happens to be taking care of someone I love very much right now - and I'm proud to do everything I can to support them.
I would be proud to have your support, too. You can make your donation online: http://www.pmc.org/egifts/JH0191 If you need to donate via check or cash, let me know and we can make arrangements.
Don't forget about MATCHING!!! Please do check with your employer’s HR department and find out whether they match charitable donations. Thank you so much for your support... it means the world to me.
Love,
Jen
