Like you our lives have been touched by many family and friends who have suffered from cancer; many of those are no longer with us. A lucky few have survived thanks to the remarkable advances in cancer treatment and exemplary care from institutions like the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Massachusetts.
On August 6th Tania and I will participate in the 35th Pan-Massachusetts Challenge (PMC) by raising a minimum of $7200 and cycling 85 miles on the Wellesley to Bourne route. Donations to our PMC ride will help cancer patients by supporting life-saving cancer research and treatment at the Dana Farber. We are riding in memory of Jeff's cousin Arlene Altman, to help others.
The PMC is an annual bike-a-thon that raises more money for charity than any other single event in the country. The organization was founded in 1980 and it has raised nearly $240 million for cancer research and treatment at the Dana Farber through its Jimmy Fund. Last year it raised over $45 million. The PMC is a model of fundraising efficiency and donates 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar directly to the cause. Dana Farber has been ranked as the best cancer hospital in New England.
Funds raised by the PMC support the efforts of more than 3,000 faculty and staff members as they make advances in cancer care and research at the DFCI. Funding the Fight Against Cancer provides tangible examples of how your donation is supporting the mission of the PMC.
Tania and I have been training all summer, riding our tandem regularly in and around and Mattapoisett. We hope to make the full 85 miles, although the cast will be an impediment!
Please make a difference and support our PMC ride. It would mean a great deal to us and even more to those affected by cancer.
