On Sunday August 4th I will be riding the Pan-Mass Challenge in honor of my Grandmother and those who have battled and are currently battling cancer.
The Pan Mass Challenge is a 2-day, 192-mile bike ride where thousands of riders participate and raise money and awareness for cancer research. As a first-year rider, I will be completing the 50-mile Wellesley to Gillette loop on Sunday August 4th, and volunteering on Saturday August 3rd as a member of the Patriots Platelet Pedalers team.
My goal this year is to raise $1,000. As a member of the Patriot Platelet Pedalers team, 100% of my fundraising will support Dr. Ken Anderson’s Multiple Myeloma team at Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
I was introduced to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute at a young age and met countless toddlers, children and adults undergoing treatment. It was through these eye-opening experiences, as well as numerous PMC dinners and events that I made a promise to one day join my father, Jim Sullivan (21-year rider) and sister, Melissa Sullivan (8-year rider).
Most of us know someone who has been affected by cancer and understand the effects that it has on not only the individual, but the families of those individuals. I truly encourage you to participate in any way possible – every little bit helps.
And of course, if you’re able to attend the event, I’m sure it will put a smile on your face to see me constantly getting passed by riders of all ages!
