I grew up never having met my grandmother, the woman I was named after. I have seen pictures and heard countless stories about her personality and her passion for life, but was never able to meet her. The cancer took her too early. She might have been saved if it had not taken her life before today's amazing medical developments. And even though I never had the opportunity to meet her I still feel loss.
In college during my time spent abroad I too was diagnosed. I was lucky and it was only stage 4 advanced pre cervical cancer, which was highly curable. Several international flights, surgeries, and continuous jet-lag sent me into remission, for which I am thankful. I cannot imagine what my family, having gone through the cancer experience before, was thinking or feeling but the experience renewed my passion for fighting it.
My father has completed 9 PMC rides thus far and will retire after his 10th. This is my second year and I plan to take over his mission to cure cancer. I ride the PMC for my beloved grandmother Corinne Ann Jones, myself, the friends that have passed, and all those who should never experience what my family has.
I would be honored by the support of my friends, family, and colleagues, because no one should have to fight cancer alone.
