Hi, my name is Brendan Sullivan. I am a US Navy veteran and have been a firefighter in the city of Boston for the last 15yrs. I am riding in the Pan Mass Challenge this year for the same reasons I signed up last year, simply to raise as much money as I can to help the Jimmy Fund and Dana Farber in cancer research. Through coordination between Dana Farber and Team Boston Fire, a fellowship has been created that 100% of all funds that our team raises to go directly to cancer research for firefighters. Occupational Cancer has become a leading cause of illness in firefighters in recent years. Firefighters have more than double the chance of getting cancer compared to people of other professions. In Boston Fire alone, there is a new cancer diagnosis roughly every three weeks. I have watched and supported many of my colleagues including my good friend Lt.Glen Preston fight cancer and become survivors. Unfortunately I have also been to many funerals of co workers who have fought bravely but ultimately lost their lives to this terrible disease.
Thank you for taking the time to read my profile and consider donating. Everyone has been effected by cancer in one way or another. Too many of our loved ones, including many of my family and friends, are being diagnosed with this and are courageously battling. Hopefully with all of our help and the great research being done at Dana Farber we can make cancer a thing of the past.
