It started with ice cream. My Nana had tried to get my Grampy to eat his favorite ice cream sandwiches that day. He wasn't feeling well, and decided he didn't want it. Knowing he needed something in his stomach, I went back into his TV room and took a big bite out of it and said Please try, your baby Girl needs you to eat this. I told him it was really good, and he took it from me. He never could turn down a request from his Baby.
Both Nana and I felt something was wrong, but he fought it all that day while a blizzard raged outside. Nana was worried if he got worse we wouldn't be able to get an ambulance in.
I stayed with him while she shoveled snow. He got worse as the night went on.
The next day the First Responders worked hard to get up our driveway and get Grampy to the hospital. We did not know, as he left, he'd never return home again.
Cancer had arrived and it broke all our hearts.
All I can say is simply Cancer SUCKS!
This memory will be one of many that I will carry with me while I ride the Sunday 25 mile route with our Team and our Pedal Partner Owen!
It's those memories that will keep me fighting to raise money for Dana-Farber. We can't let Cancer win!
The one thing I do know is that I will always miss you, Grampy.....Love - your Baby Girl
Sayin Goodbye ( The hard way )
By: Alexis Morris
I go down to valet parking
I go to the elevator, I press main floor button
I go and ask where is MICU's
they say 5th floor...
I am at Boston Medical Center
I walk down the hall with my Dad
We say, we're here to see Russell R. Morris. It's his granddaughter and son
They let us in, I go to my Grampy's room
I see all the things that are on him,
I.V. here and there, a tube to keep him alive,
he is sedated so that he doesn't feel the pain
I hold his chubby hands, I take this sponge thing
dip Pepsi on it, I put it on his lips, he flinches
Nana has been at his side for months
I talked to him I told him I would get rid of all the squirrels for him
He hated squirrels in the yard
The day I found out they were going to take the tubes out and see if he could live
It lasted 15 minutes
I love you Grampy
